CASE No 35: "December 6th 2004"

Woman aged 55 with cervical polyp. Curettage specimen

Gross Findings

Polypoid tumor. Biphasic with broad polypoid fronts and glands lined by endometrial, tubal and endocervical type epithelium. No atypia of the epithelium. Stroma resembling endometrial stroma with focal periglandular condensation. Mitoses present in some areas, exceeding 2MF/10HPF.

Diagnosis: Mullerian adenosarcoma of the cervix

The present case was difficult to interpret because of lack of obvious sarcomatous stroma.
But foci with more than 2MF/10 HPF or marked cellularity or stromal cell atypia warrant (any of these) the diagnosis of adenosarcoma
